Phonics- Tricky words

Tricky words are words that cannot be sounded out easily. They are common words that have a difficult spelling.

Have a go at singing the tricky words song. How many tricky words can you spot? Can you say them?

Now it is time to have a go at writing some of our tricky words. Make sure you have a pen and paper. Tricky words are not phonetically decodable (which means you can't sound them out).

See if you can write these words:

You should have something that looks like this:

How to play

Choose 5 or 6 tricky words that you would like to practise. 

Write these down on paper and place them face down. 

One card has the word, SPLAT! 

Turn each card over so the cards are facing down and mix the cards around.

Turn over a card and read the tricky word! 

Keep going until you have read all of the tricky words!

IF you turn over the card that says "SPLAT!" you have to turn all of the cards over, mix them up and start again!

How quickly can you do it?

Yesterday we thought about number bonds to 5. Today, we are going to think about number bonds to 10/ See how many different ways you can represent the number 10. Use the Tens Frame to find different ways of making 10.

 Hi Everyone,

In Maths today, we are thinking about the number 5.... Miss Child has made number 5 in different ways. Can you think of any different ways to represent the number 5 using objects from around your house?

PSHE: Mindfulness Breathing

Have a go at some of these mindfulness activities. This first activity is called "Focus Breathing". It can help you to calm your mind, relax and focus your attention on whatever it is that you are doing right now... and enjoy the moment!

This is a great technique to build into your everyday life to connect with your breathing, your mind and your body... and you'll feel great afterwards!

Instructions

1. Find a quiet place you can relax.

2. Breathe in and out for a few moments.

3. Use your finger to trace together the dots on these pictures or draw your own similar pattern on a piece of paper that you can trace.

4. As you trace each dot, slowly breathe in, and out.

5. Keep doing this slowly until you have traced around the pictures.

Hi everyone, I hope you are all well. We want you to keep fit and healthy while you are at home. Below is a game that you can play with your families. 

THE BEAN GAME

1) The children should begin by walking around the room/garden in any direction or you could play initially on the spot.
2) On the various commands listed below, they should carry out the appropriate action:

Command	Action
JUMPING BEAN	Jump around the room/garden
RUNNER BEAN	Run around the room/garden (looking out for other people). OR Running on the spot (more suitable for younger children than running around the room)
BROAD BEAN	Stretch your arms and legs out as wide as you can. Walk around the room taking as large strides as possible Jump in a star shape
BAKED BEAN	Lay on the floor in a star shape until the next command is given.
JELLY BEAN	Move around the room slouching and doing silly movements Wobble like a jelly
CHILLI BEAN	Shiver and shake
FROZEN BEAN	Children have to stand very still.
BAKED BEANS ON TOAST	Lie flat on the floor, spreading arms and legs out as far as possible.

Timetable

Our new word is unique! This word is an adjective. 

An adjective is a describing word!

Unique means unlike anyone or anything else. Talk to someone in your home about what makes you unique using the sentence stem "I am unique because..."

If you see something weird on the internet, always ask for help.

Here are 5 tips to help keep yourself safe on the internet: 

1. Never give out personal information including your full name, address or school name.

2. Never send pictures to strangers!

3. Keep passwords private except from parents and carers at home.

4. Do not download anything without permission.

5. Tell an adult if you receive a mean or strange message.
